Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it was natural for questions to be raised about his position following another heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the team's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got a lot of support from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I am OK with my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Discussions with The Board
When asked to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard conversations we have I perceive the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Issues and Player Reaction
Slot expressed regret over familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period such as this with results like these.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to where it needs to be, show everyone once more the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
