Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests show the substance was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
A senior political figure said the vandalism made him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on people of foreign heritage in 2020.
