Tim Southee's most recent Test for New Zealand was against England in December 2024.

England fast-bowling advisor Tim Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be during the upcoming Ashes contest in Australia.

The ex- Kiwi pace bowler is expected to be present for the opening match because of his involvement in the ILT20 tournament, which starts on 2 December in the UAE.

Southee, aged 36, assumed a position as the English team's pace bowling advisor in the summer after taking 391 wickets in 107 Tests for New Zealand.

Speaking as England's squad for the first of three Twenty20 games against New Zealand was named, he said of his participation: "We are still evaluating that at the moment.

"We will determine the outcome over the next little while."

English pace icon Broad had stated the Australian side as their "worst team since 2010", but Southee was in little doubt over the anticipated challenge during the contest, which begins on November 21.

"In my view there's ever a bad Australian cricket team," Southee said.

"The team's attention is squarely on our own objectives. In my opinion the quality of [England's] team that's going out to the host country is excellent.

"It ought to be an thrilling encounter, that series. Not only [are|do] fans from both nations eagerly anticipate it, I think the whole cricket world is."

However, prior to England travel to Perth for the opening Ashes Test, they take on the Kiwis in the city of Christchurch on Saturday.
