Iran Claims Attack on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Counterattacks.
Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Manama, as the country executed strikes across the region in response for a large-scale and continuing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area near the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any damage is uncertain and the American officials has not commented.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - reported they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was striking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites linked to the the regime, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the government.
Additional Developments
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with notable success and shot down a series of missiles," it added.
It said missile fragments fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
