The Gunners' boss has expressed confidence that his team can keep managing with player absences following revealing that attacker Kai Havertz will not return for the coming weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for Havertz

The German forward has been absent since the summer following an operation on his knee. Originally slated to return at the start of this month, Arteta revealed the player faced a hurdle when advancing his recovery and failed to reach “to the next level.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a team that is much more reliable and has greater depth,” Arteta said.

Tactical Decisions for Midweek Fixture

This news presents a tactical puzzle for the midweek match against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between sticking with Mikel Merino, who got a goal in an unfamiliar forward role on Sunday, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who came back after a fitness issue in the latter stages. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus remains in contention following a lengthy absence.

Defensive Concerns Remain

Speaking about the setback noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave further detail. “His recovery was progressing. He could not go to the subsequent stage and now the signs are like we have solved that issue.”

He shared his personal desire to welcome him back. “The team is keen to have him. Honestly, Havertz is someone that, personally, I admire greatly for what he brings to the team, but his personality, his personality. I observe his frustration while sidelined.”

“His fitness history is phenomenal, he’s been always available, and I can’t wait to have him back around the team playing because I feel it’s going to be a huge lift.”
