President Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Shot National Guard Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
President Trump announced on the weekend that he has invited the relatives of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the presidential home.
He added that he contacted her parents and they were âdevastatedâ.
Details on the Devastating Event
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their honor.
White House Invitation
The president explained heâs talked about a White House visit for the loved ones of both individuals of the state Guard.
âI stated: âWhen youâre prepared, because thatâs a hard experience, come to the White House. Weâre going to honor her,â the president told reporters. âAnd in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.â
Community Reaction
Attendees assembled over the weekend at the high school in the state to remember Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the military unit as part of the presidentâs government program to support policing efforts in DC.
Honoring Beckstrom
âShe was the individual that instructors desired. She behaved with calm resilience, a bright grin and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,â the principal, the head of Beckstromâs alma mater, told the press. âShe was kind, compassionate and always eager to help others.â
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Judicial Measures and Policy Adjustments
Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The tragedy led the government to halt asylum applications and temporarily stop providing visas to holders of Afghan passports.
Condition of the Airman
Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is âin a critical fightâ, the stateâs leader Patrick Morrisey said on Fox News Channelâs The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general Pam Bondi told the program that she planned to visit his relatives.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with honor, according to the state guard.
âShe had a lot of goodness and she definitely had fortitude,â Morrisey told the gathering at the service. âThough her time was cut short, she has made an impact thatâs going to last forever.â
