The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
