The Renowned Musician Urges Backing to Get Together for Palestine Song to UK Festive Top Spot.
A campaign is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The effort hopes to send support to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Chance for Support and an "Surprise Victory"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a chance to show solidarity with Palestinians during the holidays. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that happened, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”
Defiant Message of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“The song holds a deeply meaningful spot for countless listeners,” Barghouti said. “The essence is that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we seek to lead a dignified life that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Featured Artists
The song was recorded after a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. Originally intended to be performed and recorded live, the rendition was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The diverse array of performers contributing to Lullaby features a range of prominent voices from the music world. All took part in the earlier concert, which successfully generated a substantial amount for relief efforts.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a team of producers and composers. The single features a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with contemporary English verses.
The group managing the initiative have stated that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be channeled to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“There is no a rigid aim,” a representative explained. “We aim for whatever we can get. Naturally, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The situation in the territory was noted for its profound destruction, with a vast majority of buildings reportedly in ruins or severely impacted.
“Given that reality, a few million won't make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and demonstrating the human dimension of the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from mid-December.
